National College of Midwifery.

The National College of Midwifery is a non-for-profit, degree-granting institution founded in New Mexico and recognized by the New Mexico Commission of Higher Education. Degrees available are: Associate Degree in Midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Midwifery, Master of Science in Midwifery, and Doctorate of Philosophy in Midwifery.

The college was originally founded by the New Mexico Midwives Association and the Northern New Mexico Midwifery Center to fulfill two tasks:

* To offer an upgrade in the education of licensed midwives

* To stimulate research by midwifery practitioners.

At the April 1991 meeting of the National Coalition of Midwifery Educators, the New Mexico College was asked by the group to open its program to all midwives in the USA. The Board of Directors of the College agreed to the concept and changed the name, adjusting entrance requirements to fulfill the needs of all midwives.

The program is geared to adult learners and is designed to be used under the guidance of your preceptor in their, or your, clinical setting.

The concept is self-paced, community-based learning to enable you to stay in your community and thereby minimize the costs of your education.

The program is based on internationally and nationally recognized core competencies.
