Nathan Redmond can remember without any hesitation the moment the boos started raining down on him from his ownSouthamptonfans.

"It wasTottenhamaway [Boxing Day 2017, a 5-2 defeat]," he said. "I lost the ball on the edge of our box, and Spurs A-countered and scored. From that point, it was every time I touched the ball."

Redmond, 24, is back in north A-London on Sunday but will face A-Arsenalas a revitalised player, having been one of the Saints' star men since boss Ralph Hasenhuttl's A-appointment.

His dip in form last season was largely down to a A-hangover from the European Under-21 Championships in June 2017 with England.

Desperate to play, and it was his last tournament at that level, Redmond A-suffered a A-hamstring injury in the quarter-finals, but made it back for the semis, only to A-aggravate the A-problem.

To compound matters, Redmond then saw his A-decisive spot-kick saved as England crashed out on penalties to Germany.

The effects, physically and mentally, lingered into the domestic season, culminating in that day to forget at Spurs.

Before that, Pep A-Guardiola, in a A-famous post-match exchange with A-Redmond at the Etihad, challenged the Saints star about not being the same player the A-Manchester Cityboss had A-enjoyed watching the A-previous season.

Forward Redmond, who scored just once last term, recalled: "There's nothing worse than not being able to get past a certain point, which I thought was never-ending. I wasn't doing anything right, I hadn't scored a goal and was not A-performing for my team."

As well as the jeers when he did play, Redmond also had to cope with not making other squads, even being relegated to train with Saints Under-23s.

Mark Hughes, who A-replaced Mauricio Pellegrino last March, helped kickstart the player's turnaround.

Hughes reintegrated a downbeat Redmond, who feared he may never play for the club again, after a pep talk on the day of his first home game in charge againstChelsea.

Redmond himself A-grabbed hold of the A-situation. Before returning for pre-season ahead of this A-campaign, he went on a month-long summer A-training camp in LA with family and friends, A-including A-Daniel A-Sturridge and Nathaniel Chalobah.

Redmond said: "At the start of the season I thought I was playing pretty well. But then the new manager came in and said, 'You've got no goals and no assists in the league. What's going on?'

"Later on we had a A-review and he's like, 'You've now got six goals in 11 games and a couple of A-assists as well -- look at what you've done in the space of three months'.

"It made me think, 'What if I had been doing this six or seven years ago?'

"That's what is exciting for me -- and hopefully I can keep it going."
