NYNEX INTRODUCES FORERUNNER OF ELECTRONIC YELLOW PAGES
NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- NYNEX Information Resources

Company, through its NYNEX Information Technologies subsidiary, today announced its first networked electronic information service, an on-line directory of Yellow Pages listings.
The new service, called NYNEX NortheastAccess, is comprised of all business listings contained in the NYNEX Yellow Pages and Business-to- Business directories serving New York and New England. Consumers can select information, updated quarterly, from among the 7,000 headings and 1.7 million listings culled from about 300 NYNEX directories.
In making this announcement, NYNEX becomes the first of the seven Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) to introduce an on-line Yellow Pages directory listing service. Previously, the RBOCs were prohibited from providing networked services in accordance with legal restrictions associated with the Modification of Final Judgment ruling.
"NYNEX NortheastAccess represents the first logical step in our migration toward the broad-based delivery of electronic information services," said Kurt Roessner, president of NYNEX Information Technologies. "More enhancements, like display ads, will be added as the service evolves and moves closer to an eventual electronic Yellow Pages service available to a variety of users."
NYNEX NortheastAccess is available to consumers, entrepreneurs, small and large businesses, as well as U.S. and European-based users of the Minitel network. Anyone with a Minitel terminal, an IBM PC- compatible unit, a MacIntosh, an Apple II, or a Commodore can access NYNEX NortheastAccess in addition to other services available on the Minitel network.
Users can sign up for NYNEX NortheastAccess by calling 1-800-35-NYNEX. In response to the call, users will receive an information package with details on NYNEX's new offering, the entire bundle of services available through Minitel and the necessary software to use the system. The software is free.
Before using Minitel's network, customers must input credit card information. NYNEX NortheastAccess users are charged $0.61 per minute.
Various search methods make it easy to locate a specific listing. To initiate a search, users must first select a state, followed by either a heading or a business name. Information can be further narrowed by locality, area code, or zip code.
In addition to business listings, NYNEX NortheastAccess users can access current national and international news supplied by UPI, stock quotes and financial summaries, and travel information for cities in this country and abroad. These ancillary services are provided by DELPHI's New York affiliate, Videotex Development Corporation.
NYNEX Information Resources Company is a subsidiary of NYNEX Corporation (NYSE: NYN), one of the telecommunication companies created by the breakup of the Bell System in 1984.
