NUTRASWEET(R) SPOONFUL(TM) SOON TO BE ON TABLES ACROSS THE COUNTRY
DEERFIELD, Ill., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- It looks like sugar. It tastes like sugar. It spoons like sugar. It measures like sugar. It even comes in a jar like sugar. But what it doesn't have, is all the sugar.
And soon, consumers across the country can have it -- new NutraSweet(R) Spoonful(TM) Sugar Alternative.
NutraSweet Spoonful, which consumers will begin to see on store shelves in July, with national distribution in the Fall, is a new granulated, spoon-for-spoon alternative to sugar. NutraSweet Spoonful is the first consumer product named for the familiar NutraSweet brand sweetener. One teaspoon of NutraSweet Spoonful has the same sweetness as one teaspoon of sugar, but with only two calories, versus sugar's 16 calories.
"Now consumers can have the taste and convenience of sugar with all the benefits of NutraSweet brand sweetener," said Andy Balbirer, NutraSweet vice president of tabletop products.
NutraSweet appears in close to 5,000 products in more than 50 countries. Today, NutraSweet is recognized by 98 percent of American consumers, enjoyed by 200 million consumers worldwide and stands for unsurpassed quality, consumer trust and great taste.
 Toward Healthier Living
The increasing consumer acceptance of NutraSweet brand sweetener has paralleled the nation's drive toward a healthier lifestyle. This drive in seen in an increased awareness of the importance of sound nutrition. In fact, a recent Gallup poll shows that 95 percent of adults believe that variety and moderation are the keys to healthy eating.
NutraSweet Spoonful is a great-tasting alternative to sugar that can help people follow a healthier eating plan by lowering caloric intake.
"Consumers are acutely aware of the connection between their health and the foods they eat," Balbirer said, "and NutraSweet Spoonful provides them with a choice that can be a healthy part of any meal."
 Response to Consumer Demand
"Consumers have been asking us for a convenient product that measures and tastes like sugar, and NutraSweet Spoonful is the great- tasting response," Balbirer said.
"In 1991 alone," he said, "the NutraSweet Consumer Center received thousands of calls asking for a great-tasting alternative to sugar in bulk form."
Also in response to consumers, the NutraSweet Company has created "The NutraSweet Spoonful No-Bake Cookbook" which includes recipes for everything from toppings and sauces to frozen treats to fancy desserts.
The cookbook provides complete nutritional information with each recipe, as well as guidelines on eating well and staying fit. "The NutraSweet Spoonful No-Bake Cookbook" is available by writing: The NutraSweet Spoonful No-Bake Cookbook, P.O. Box 7777-A6, Mount Prospect, IL, 60056-7777, and including one dollar for shipping and handling. Limit one cookbook per household.
Convenient Size and Great Price Value
NutraSweet Spoonful comes in convenient reusable and recyclable fluted glass jars in two sizes, one-half pound and one pound sugar equivalent. Suggested retail prices are $1.59 and $2.39, respectively. NutraSweet Spoonful is made only from NutraSweet brand sweetener and maltodextrin.
The NutraSweet Company, headquartered in Deerfield, Ill., manufactures and markets NutraSweet brand sweetener; Equal(R) brand tabletop sweetener with NutraSweet; NutraSweet Spoonful Sugar Alternative; Simplesse(R) all natural fat substitute; and the Simple Pleasures(R) Light line of frozen dairy desserts made with Simplesse.
