NURSE HUBBY 'BEAT DOC TO DEATH' OVER AFFAIR; Man denies violent attack.
A DOCTOR who was having an affair with a nurse was battered to death by his lover's jealous husband, a court heard yesterday.
Wealthy Dr Colin Shawcross, 58, was allegedly murdered during a "lethal, violent and overwhelming" attack by love rival Andrew Hill.
The dad of three, who suffered fatal skull fractures, was then hidden in the boot of his Jaguar S-type car before being buried in nearby woods. His body was found five months later.
It was claimed Hill, who denies murdering Dr Shawcross, had battered him to death with a pickaxe handle hours after his wife Julie, 47, told him she was leaving him for the doctor, who worked with her at Sheffield's Hallamshire Hospital. The telephone cable layer had earlier thrown Julie and her son George, 12, out of their home.
The next morning, Mrs Hill arrived at the doctor's house in Aston, near Rotherham, South Yorks, and found blood on the flagstones outside - but there was no sign of the doctor, Sheffield crown court heard.
Prosecutor Charles Garside said Hill was "very, very angry" after his wife said she was leaving him in January 2009, and had the motive of jealousy.
Blood from the doctor's clothes was found in the driver's seat of Hill's Honda Civic and fibres found in the Jaguar matched others in the Civic, he said.
The wheelbarrow, which was found in the wood, had belonged to Hill, of Woodall, Rotherham.
The jury heard Dr Shawcross, was separated from his wife Carol, a Sheffield GP, but they remained on good terms. She had been told about the five-month affair, the jury heard.
The trial continues.
