NURSE'S 500 REASONS FOR WANTING MORE STAFF.

ONE Scottish delegate Emma Merriman, from Lothian branch, delivered a parody of the Proclaimers 500 Miles to get across her point about the numbers of extra hours and staff shortages with which nurses had to contend while trying to deliver the very best care possible.

She told the congress: "When I wake up, I know I'm going to be the nurse who's looking after you... When I get paid I'll give it almost all to you - George Osborne."

Here's Emma's full version of 500 Miles, with help from our Scottish friends the Proclaimers...

When I wake up, well, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse whose looking after you!

When I go out, yeah, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse who goes to care for you!

If I get tired, well, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse who gets tired next to you!

And if I speak out, hey, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse who'speaking out you!

But I would work five hundred hours, And I would work five hundred more, Just to be the nurse who worked a thousand hours, To be there at your side! When I'm working, yes, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse who's working hard for you!

And when the money comes in for the work I do, I'll pass almost every penny on to you - (George Osborne) When I come home, oh, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse who comes back home to you, And if I grow old, well, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the nurse who's growing old with you, literally I'll be 68!

But I would work five hundred hours And I would work five hundred more, Just to be the nurse who worked a thousand hours, To be there at your side! Does this sound safe? Congress I urge you to support this resolution!
