NUML wins best delegate award.

ISLAMABAD, February 02, 2012 (Balochistan Times): A delegation of seven students from National University of Modern Languages(NUML), Islamabad Wednesday bagged the Best Delegate Award at NUST Model United Nations (NUMUN) competition. The competition lasted from 26th January to 30th January in NUST. The concept of MUN (Model United Nations) is not new as it has been held annually for the last 11 years and the latest was 12th such event which was held at NUST. MUN is the format of General Assembly platform with multiple committees to discuss and debate different world issues followed by their proposed resolutions. It is a competition in which participants have to simulate the United Nation and its committees while being the diplomats/ delegates of particular country, which is usually assigned by the host tea Muhammad The delegates have to research properly on the assigned country and to talk on their behalf on all the issues and debates. Therefore, instead of simply holding a debate contest, under MUN several activities are arranged for the students not only to try their communicative skills but also to consolidate their theoretical knowledge. A total of 57 student delegates comprising of more than 450 students from different academic institutions of Pakistan participated in the event and they represented geography, history, current issues, diplomatic relations, economy, wars, culture, language, food, music and every possible information of different countries who are actually member of United Nations. The students of NUML were allotted the country The Republic of Chile: a Latin American country. The delegate from NUML included Pashmina Mughal, Observer Delegate, Kali Zahra, Head Delegate, and Participant Delegates Mr. Humayon Raja, MUHAMMAD Ikhlas Tariq, MUHAMMAD Haroon, MUHAMMAD Adil Rana, MUHAMMAD Kashif Javed, Kazim Kumail. NUMUN-2012 has 10 committees including DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee), WHO (World Health Organization), IAEA, IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), UNDP (United Nations Development Program), SOCHUM (Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee), UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women), UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council), HGA (Historical General Assembly). A tremendous debate and arguments surfaced in all the committees by the delegates from various school, colleges and universities. Among 58 countries/ institutes, the stall, depicting their respective country, of student delegate from NUML made up the mark while scoring the Best Stall Award in the Global Village. To cut the long story short, from official committee sessions to tambola game, the performance and traditional Chilean attires of NUMLs student delegate touched hearts of every single soul attended the NUMUN 2012. Moreover, on the Polar Night, NUML team member, Ikhlas Tariq, was officially requested to sing, who then put out the magic into the night and every one appreciated not only with an applaud but with the standing ovation. Finally, the chairs of every committee announced the results of their own committee. There were three honorary mentions and three best delegate awards in every committee. The delegate/ team member from NUML Ikhlas Tariq won the Best Delegate Award and also Best Delegation for Global Village having the best depiction of Chilean representation on stalls bagged by NUML. Rector NUML Maj Gen Masood Hasan and DG Brig Azam Jamal appreciated the performance of the students at competition and announced the cash prize for the students.
