NTT West erroneously charges ADSL service subscribers.
NTT West Corp. said Monday it has erroneously charged its ADSL high-speed Internet access service subscribers in 9,613 cases.
The company overcharged in 164 cases, worth about 150,000 yen in total or up to 3,675 yen in a single case, said the regional unit of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.
NTT West will return the overcharged portions plus 14.5 percent interest to subscribers involved, company officials said.
In the remaining 9,449 cases, the company undercharged by a total of some 18 million yen, the officials said, adding it will not ask the subscribers to pay the difference.
The erroneous charges were attributable to wrongly inputting customer data about purchasing or renting a modem for the service during the period from February through May, resulting in bill problems concerning a modem rental fee of about 500 yen a month, they said.
Apologizing for the problem, the company said it will send a letter to subscribers involved.
