NTT East to cut Internet service fees next month.
NTT East Corp. plans to reduce the fixed-rate fees for its high-speed Internet access services by 250-300 yen next month to 3,300-3,800 yen a month, company officials said Wednesday.
NTT East, one of the two regional carriers of telecom giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT), also plans to more than halve the fixed-rate fee for its fiber-optic service to 5,000 yen from the trial-basis fee when it begins full operation next month, the officials said.
The company will announced the rate cuts Thursday, the officials said. NTT West Corp., the other carrier, is expected to follow suit.
The two NTT carriers are likely to cut their rates further in the near future in a bid to complete with Yahoo! JAPAN, which will launch a high-speed Internet access service in August with monthly fees at the 2,000 yen level.
