NTT East, West secretly fixed glitch in telephones for corporate use.
Fixed-line telecom carriers NTT East Corp. and NTT West Corp. have since mid-April been repairing a glitch in telephone systems for corporate use without publicly reporting the trouble, company officials said Monday.
The malfunction stemming from design errors has stopped some of the systems from working. The local-call arms of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. claim they have almost finished replacing the parts that caused the problem.
The two companies began selling the telephone system worth 2.6 million yen in February and have so far sold a total of 1,028 sets to corporate users nationwide.
Officials said an in-house quality check revealed the design errors, leading the telecom carriers to conduct free repairs.
An NTT East official said the company did not make public the trouble because they had a list of all users. However, the official admitted that in some cases it hadn't been able to fix the problem before users complained.
