NTL to take over and manage MoD communications towers.

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-14 December 2001-NTL to take over and manage MoD communications towers (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The towers business of NTL Inc has secured a contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to manage, market and develop 112 MoD communication towers in a public private partnership deal.

The move is aimed at enabling both organisations - NTL and the MoD - to benefit from commercial use of the sites.

Under the terms of the agreement, NTL will manage the towers and add them to its portfolio of communications sites available for use in the UK by mobile communications operators. Income received from the sites will be shared.

The agreement comes as part of the UK government's Wider Markets Initiative intended to exploit the revenue potential from government assets.
