NRF SPECNET REPORTS 75 MEMBERS AND OVER $3 MILLION SAVINGS
 IN FIRST-SIX MONTHS OF OPERATION
NEW YORK, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Last December, the National Retail Federation (NRF), the nation's largest retail trade association, reached an agreement with MCI Communications Corporation to provide long- distance telecommunications services at volume discount rates to its retailer members. Since its formation, the new service, marketed under the name of SpecNet, presently has 75 NRF members who shared in a total savings of $3,090,203 in the first six months of 1992.
In addition to long distance telecommunications services, a shared data communications network will soon be made available to SpecNet members. Other projects including credit authorization facilities, group purchasing of equipment, group maintenance, and fully-interactive networks are currently being evaluated by NRF for implementation in the SpecNet program within the next few months.
According to Jack Schultz, NRF president, "The NRF continues to introduce programs to help its members cut costs and operate more efficiently. SpecNet is just one example of how an NRF program works for its members."
The National Retail Federation is the nation's largest retail trade association. Its membership represents an industry that encompasses over one million U.S. retail establishments, employs 19.3 million people and registered 1991 sales in excess of $1.8 trillion. NRF's membership includes 27 national retail associations and all 50 state associations; and its international membership represents stores in 50 nations abroad.
