NRC STAFF TO HOLD SAN DIEGO MEDIA BRIEFING
AND MEET WITH SAN ONOFRE MANAGEMENT
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff will conduct an informal briefing for San Diego area media Friday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. in the Harbor View Holiday Inn, 1617 First Ave., San Diego. NRC Region V Deputy Regional Administrator Bobby H. Faulkenberry will discuss the Management Meeting to be held earlier that morning at San Onofre (see below), the status of Unit 1 and nuclear power plant decommissioning, and NRC operations generally.
At 8:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9, NRC Region V staff will meet with managers of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) in a routine Management Meeting at SONGS. The status of plans for the permanent shutdown of Unit 1 will be the lead topic. The meeting is open to the press and public for observation. Since the meeting will be held in an area protected by the SONGS security staff, individuals wishing to attend should contact David Barron of Southern California Edison (phone: 818-302-7954) to ease access to the "mesa" area of the plant site.
CONTACT: Greg Cook of U.S. NRC, 510-975-0346, or 707-644-2428 (home).
