NRC REPORTS PILGRIM ACHIEVED 'SUPERIOR LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE'
IN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, RADIOLOGICAL CONTROLS AND SECURITY
PLYMOUTH, Mass., Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston Edison Senior Vice President-Nuclear George W. Davis announced that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in its most recent Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) Report gave emergency preparedness, radiological controls, and security at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station the highest rating.
The areas are given grades ranging from "1," the highest ranking to "3." Improving or decreasing trends are also noted.
All the other functional areas assessed by the NRC were rated as having attained "a good level of performance," "2." Those areas are Plant Operations-Improving, Maintenance/Surveillance, Engineering/ Technical Support, and Safety Assessment/Quality Verification. Although the rating for Engineering/Technical Support declined since the last report, it is still noted as "a strong licensee asset."
Davis stated that, "We are proud of our achievements and will not diminish our efforts to continue on a positive track. I am especially pleased that The SALP Board assessment noted sustained improvements in the management and operation of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station."
