NRC'S REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR TO HOLD A
MEDIA BRIEFING IN PHILADELPHIA ON FRIDAY
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Regional administrator for the Northeast United States will hold a special media briefing in Philadelphia on Friday, February 7, 1992, to describe the status of nuclear power plants and other users of radioactive materials in the Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey area.
This will be the first of several such briefings to be given throughout the Region each year by Thomas T. Martin, the Regional Administrator of NRC Region I. The Region covers 11 states and the District of Columbia, and it contains 30 operating nuclear power plants and 3,000 NRC-licensed users of radioactive material.
The briefing will include discussion of the nuclear power plants at the Limerick, Peach Bottom, Susquehanna and Three Mile Island sites in Pennsylvania and Oyster Creek, Salem and Hope Creek sites in New Jersey. Mr. Martin also will discuss the NRC experiences with medical licensees and commercial and industrial users of radioactive material, the agency's role in the identification and cleanup of radioactively contaminated industrial sites -- some dating to early in this century -- and he will review some of the region's major enforcement actions in the year just ended.
The briefing will begin at 10 a.m. in the William J. Green Federal Building at 6th and Arch Streets, Room 6306/10 in Philadelphia. The room will be open from 9:30 a.m. on so that the electronic media will have time to set up.
