NRA honors Busch

The National Rifle Assn. (NRA) recently presented its Professional Public Service Award to August Busch III, chairman of the board and president, Anheuser-Busch Cos., Inc.

The association cited Busch "for his efforts to promote shooting sports nationwide." It said that under his leadership, "Anheuser-Busch has worked to support and preserve America's shooting and hunting heritage."

In 1990 along, the NRA noted, Anheuser-Busch sponsored shooting events in 46 states. One of those states is Texas, where the company and its Budweiser beer has sponsored the National Skeet Shooting Association World Shoot for the last several years. The event, to be held in San Antonio in October, will be sponsored by A-B again this year.

The NRA also noted that Anheuser-Busch has supported hunter education and youth programs such as the Hunter Education Assn., and has donated to a wide range of outdoor and wildlife conservation activities such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the National Wildlife Federation.

When accepting the award, Busch said, "The love for hunting and shooting and conservation goes back long way in my family. It began with my great-grandfather, Adolphus Busch, and was passed down through the generations to me. I learned it from my father, August Busch, Jr., and I'm proud to say I've passed it on to my sons."
