NQ coffee bar opens second city centre site; Ezra & GIL SETS UP SHOP ON PETER STREET.
Byline: DAISY JACKSON
Ezra & Gil, one of the Northern Quarter's busiest coffee shops, is preparing to open a second site in Manchester city centre.
The popular brunch spot has snapped up for the former Subway site on Peter Street, close to Manchester Central Library and on the same stretch as Albert's Schloss, Rudy's and the Peaky Blinders bar.
The new cafe will have around 65 covers, making it slightly smaller than the 95-cover original site on Hilton Street, which opened in 2015 and has been busy ever since.
Ezra (meaning 'helper') and Gil (meaning 'happiness') serves a wholesome all-day brunch menu, with dishes including smashed pumpkin on toast with feta and eggs; Greek-style omelettes; brioche French toast and full English breakfasts.
It also has toasted sandwiches, salads, and poke-style bowls of sushi rice with various toppings for afternoons.
There's a small 'provisions' store within the cafe selling quality imported products and local produce such a fresh bread and fruit.
On Hilton Street, there are window seats facing across the Northern Quarter, exposed brick walls, and menus scrawled on huge brown paper scrolls.
Many of the design elements will be carried over to their second site, but Alison Creely from Ezra & Gil says: "We want to replicate what we've done on Hilton Street, but will use the fabric of Peter Street - it's a very different space. There's a lot of concrete so it will feel slightly different."
The daytime menu for the new site will be very similar to the Northern Quarter offering, with everything available to take away, but the Peter Street site plans to remain open until 10pm in the evenings.
There will also be a limited offering of alcoholic drinks. Alison said: "It won't be a huge part of Ezra & Gil. Peter Street has enough bars already!" ? Ezra & Gil on Peter Street is expecting to open later this summer, and will be open seven days a week.
Ezra & Gil will be open on Peter Street soon
