NPCA joins Energy Security alliance.

The National Paint and Coatings Association (NPCA), Washington, D.C., has joined the Consumer Alliance for Energy Security (CAES), which is a "broad-based coalition of consumer, industrial, and institutional energy users committed to alleviating the current U.S. energy crisis by pushing for access to the supply of domestic energy on the Outer Continental Shelf."

The coalition was formed by entities from numerous industries that have been "adversely affected by the steep rise in natural gas prices," including American Chemistry Council, Society of the Plastics Industry, and National Association of Manufacturers. According to NPCA, 85% of the natural gas supply on the Outer Continental Shelf is currently off-limits to exploration. It is believed that the Shelf contains enough natural gas to heat 100 million homes for 60 years, and enough oil to drive 85 million cars for 35 years.

There are a number of energy-related proposals pending in the U.S. House and Senate and the CAES is lobbying for proposals related to the Outer Continental Shelf.
