NPC to prepare natural gas report. (Newsline: for the latest industry developments).
Members of the NPC are appointed by the President. The current roster includes the chief executive officers of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, Dynegy Inc., Duke Energy Corp. and El Paso Corp. The members of the NPC and their designees will be writing the report.
Carla Scali Byrd, spokeswoman for the NPC, says there is no time line for completion of the report. Some NPC reports have taken two years to write.
In explaining the need for the report on a "huge and complicated subject," Abraham said, "We need to know what should be done to ensure adequate, reliable supplies of natural gas for a growing economy and energy-hungry consumers. We need more information on the potential of new technologies, on pipeline storage and capacity and on traditional and new sources of supply such as Arctic gas and increased use of LNG. In order to answer these questions--and many more I do not have the time to list here--about the future of natural gas, you will also have to analyze the potential future contributions to our energy system of clean coal, nuclear and other energy sources."
