NOW IT'S PARKY RUN; Sir Michael launches new charity event.

By Emma Davison News Reporter BROADCASTING legend Sir Michael Parkinson launched a new family fun run at Cannon Hall Farm.

The popular talk show host officially started the inaugural 'Parky Run' for Yorkshire Cancer Research, his first engagement since becoming patron of the charity.

Sir Michael, best known for his long-running talk show Parkinson, recently agreed to support the regional charity following his own experience with prostate cancer.

The day started with a junior 2k dash for children aged two upwards, followed by a 5k fun run for adults.

Nicky Hyde, Cannon Hall Farm's marketing manager, said: "It's been an absolutely splendid day, there's been a really great atmosphere.

It was the first time that a run had been organised right the way around the Cawthorne-based farm, with livestock moved elsewhere to accommodate runners.

"Sir Michael has had lots of selfies and autographed certificates.

Hundreds of people attended the family fun day, which also included funfair rides and entertainment.

"He spoke about his own experiences dealing with cancer, why he decided to become patron of the charity and the amazing work its doing.

Director Richard Nicholson said that the shadow of cancer had touched his family at the farm.

"It's great to see a local charity so well supported.

His wife Maxine died from cancer six years ago aged 46 and this strengthened their resolve to support the charity and its efforts to assist the development of treatments "We moved out the livestock and runners ran a route right around the farm - it's the first time we've done something like that."
