DEAUVILLE, France, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bestselling novelist Sidney Sheldon today was awarded the prestigious Prix Litteraire de Deauville at the Deauville Film Festival. Shortly after receiving the award, Sheldon will head to the Far East, where he will be feted by booksellers in five Asian countries.
The Prix Litteraire cited Sheldon, one of the world's most successful and popular novelists, for "carrying on and refining the art of storytelling in novels, films and television and for financial contributions and gifts of time and passion in promoting literacy throughout the world."
Past winners of the Prix Litteraire de Deauville include Norman Mailer and Irwin Shaw.
Sheldon's novels enjoy a worldwide popularity. His Asian trip will take him to Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Japan.
There are currently 200 million copies of Sheldon's 12 novels in print and each of them has topped the New York Times bestseller list. All of his novels have been made into feature films or television miniseries.
September will also be Sidney Sheldon month in the United States where bookstores will feature special displays of his 12 paperback novels. Warner Books kicked off the U.S. campaign, one of its biggest for any author, with 10 days of national television advertising.
