NOVACARE WINS PRESTIGIOUS CORPORATE AWARD; ASSOCIATION FOR CORPORATE GROWTH GIVES TOP HONORS TO COMPANY WITH 59 PCT ANNUAL COMPOUND GROWTH

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Philadelphia Chapter of Association for Corporate Growth today named NovaCare, Inc. (NYSE: NOV), the recipient of its Emerging Company Award. The award, one of Philadelphia's most prestigious honors, is given each year by the Association to a Delaware Valley company with annual sales of less than $1 billion that has demonstrated outstanding growth for the past three years.
"NovaCare has achieved impressive growth and financial results while helping to improve the quality of life of thousands of patients nationwide who need rehabilitative care. That's quite a feat," said James O. Ross, president of the Association's Philadelphia Chapter. "This company clearly fits our profile of an outstanding emerging growth company."
NovaCare, a leading national provider of comprehensive medical rehabilitation services, has had sales grow at a compound annual rate of 59 percent in the past five years to $385 million in 1992. NovaCare is one of Philadelphia's fastest growing companies and was named one of the nation's fastest growing in 1992 by Fortune and FW magazines.
"Our company is about more than just financial results," said John H. Foster, chairman and chief executive officer. "We are successful because we provide quality rehabilitative care in a cost- effective manner. Medical rehabilitation is an integral part of today's healthcare system -- one that will continue to drive the industry through reform and into the future. We look forward to continued growth which will allow us to bring our services to more patients in need."
The award will be presented to Mr. Foster at a dinner reception this evening at 7 p.m. at the Union League of Philadelphia. Past Emerging Growth Award winners in the Delaware Valley include J&J Snack Foods, CSS Industries, Vishay Intertechnology and SunGard Data Systems. Each of the Association's 23 Chapters nationwide have honored a local firm. NovaCare and 22 other finalists will now compete for the National Emerging Growth Award, to be announced in late March 1994. Previous winners of the national award include biotechnology giant Amgen of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The Association for Corporate Growth, founded in 1954 by a group of growth-oriented executives, is an organization designed as a forum for ideas related to both internal and external growth. The Association has more than 3,000 members nationwide representing 2,000 companies.
NovaCare, Inc., is the largest provider of rehabilitation therapy services on a contract basis to health care institutions and is the nation's leading provider of orthotic and prosthetic patient care services. In addition, the company operates seven rehabilitation hospitals and seven community integrated programs. The company treats more than 15,000 patients per day.
