NOVA AGREES TO SUPPORT ALTAMONT PROJECT

CALGARY, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- NOVA Corporation of Alberta (Toronto, Montreal, Alberta: NVA) announced today that it has signed a letter of understanding with Altamont Gas Transmission Co.
Under the terms of the letter, NOVA or an affiliate will make all necessary regulatory filings and pursue approvals on the Canadian portion of the pipeline project. In addition, NOVA will work closely with Altamont, particularly on building, owning and operating the Canadian line.
NOVA, or an affiliate, also will cooperate with and support Altamont in future Canadian and U.S. regulatory filings and in determining the best means by which the project could be constructed.
These events make Altamont's appeal of the National Energy board's Feb. 25, 1993, decision denying Altamont's Section 58 application unnecessary and shift the responsibility for Canadian regulatory filings to NOVA.
Altamont will construct a 30-inch-diameter pipeline from the U.S.-Canada border to Opal, Wyo., in the southwestern part of the state. At the Opal market center, Altamont will connect with nine other pipelines, which will serve markets in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Mexico and the U.S. Midwest.
