EDIN DZEKO has rejected the chance to go to Liverpool as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Raheem Sterling.

Manchester City are set to make a renewed bid for the Anfield forward after having a PS30million offer rejected last week.

But Dzeko's not keen on a move to Merseyside and it looks like City will need to try to do a straight cash deal. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers' top striker target is Aston Villa's Christian Benteke and he also wants Southampton's England right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

They are likely to make an improved offer for Clyne, having had a PS10m bid turned down.

It means Liverpool are increasingly under pressure to sell 20-year-old Sterling who has two years left on his contract with the Reds.
