NORWAY'S SLEIPNER WEST FIELD APPROVED FOR DEVELOPMENT

IRVING, Texas, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Exxon Corporation (NYSE: XON) announced today that the Norwegian Storting (Parliament) has approved the Sleipner West field for development. Production startup is planned for 1997. Exxon's share of recoverable reserves from the field is estimated at about 1.0 trillion cubic feet of gas and 100 million barrels of condensate.
The field is located 160 miles west of Stavanger and just west of the Sleipner East field, which is currently under development with an expected October 1993 startup.
Esso Norge, Exxon's operating affiliate in Norway, discovered the northern part of Sleipner West in 1974. The field extends over two licenses -- license 029, block 15/6 and licence 046, block 15/9. Sleipner West is operated by Statoil, the Norwegian state oil company.
Exxon is the largest private owner and investor in both Sleipner West and Sleipner East. The gas will be transported through the Norwegian gas pipeline systems to Belgium and Germany for sale to continental gas buyers.
