NORWALK COMPANY TO INSTALL GTE'S FIRST NATURAL GAS VEHICLE FUELING STATION

NORWALK COMPANY TO INSTALL GTE'S FIRST NATURAL GAS VEHICLE FUELING STATION
NORWALK, Conn., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Norwalk Company, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of natural gas vehicle (NGV) fueling systems, today announced that it will provide the first dedicated natural gas fleet fueling station for General Telephone and Electronics' (GTE) Santa Monica, Calif., operations.
The facility is expected to be operational by December 1992.
Arthur McCauley, chairman and president of Norwalk Company, said, "The GTE contract is an important step toward establishing natural gas as an economically viable fuel and improving vehicle emissions and air quality."
GTE will fuel 100 recently purchased Chrysler dedicated natural gas vans at the Santa Monica location. The new Chrysler vehicles replace gasoline-powered vans that consumed more than 5,000 gallons of gasoline per week. The scope of the contract includes Norwalk's CHARGER Model NQ-SV3-40 compressor, dryer and controls. McCauley said the savings differential between natural gas and gasoline costs will enable GTE to recover the cost of the NGV fueling station in less than three years.
Norwalk Company, Inc., located in South Norwalk, Conn., since 1864, is an original equipment manufacturer of compressors for various molecular-weight gases. Norwalk is recognized internationally as the foremost provider of natural gas fueling equipment. It serves the petrochemical, specialty gas and alternate fuel industries around the world.
Norwalk Company entered the compressed natural gas market in 1973 with a range of equipment designed and engineered specifically for use in NGV fueling stations. To date, more than 400 units have been sold and installed worldwide.
