NORTHWEST AIRLINK ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR HAMILTON FLIGHTS
HAMILTON AIRPORT, Canada, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials from Mesaba Avaition, Inc., which operates as Northwest Airlink, today announced plans to initiate scheduled airline service between Hamilton and Detroit Metropolitan Airport effective May 19, 1992. The carrier's schedule will begin with three daily round-trip flights and will be operated with 19-passenger Fairchild Metro III aircraft. A fourth trip will be added effective June 5.
"We are thrilled to be announcing this service between Hamilton and Detroit," said Jeffrey B. Jones, director of Market Planning with Mesaba. "Our new services will offer travelers tremendous connecting opportunities at Detroit on Northwest Airlines as well as frequent local service."
Mesaba operates as Northwest Airlink under a marketing agreement with Northwest Airlines. As part of that agreement, the two airlines coordinate flight schedules, fares and marketing programs. Passengers flying on Northwest Airlink receive one stop baggage check-in, advance seating assignments, boarding passes and earn mileage credit in WORLDPERKS, Northwest's free travel program. At Detroit, Northwest and Northwest Airlink currently operate 340 daily flight departures and offer nonstop service to more than 75 cities worldwide.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul-based carrier was founded in 1944, began scheduled airline service in 1973, and became Northwest's first Northwest Airlink affiliate in 1984. Mesaba carried more than one million passengers in 1991, and was named "best managed regional airline in 1990" by Airline Executive International Magazine.
The Fairchild Metro III aircraft offers a pressurized, comfortable service to passengers. The aircraft cruises at speeds of 300 miles per hour and is widely used in the regional airline industry. Mesaba operates a fleet of 21 Metro III aircraft in addition to a fleet of 15 48-passenger Fokker F27 aircraft.
Hamilton will be the 40th city on Mesaba's route system which includes hubs at both Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit. The city is the second Canadian point served by Mesaba; service to London, Ontario began Sept. 5, 1991.
