NORTHWEST AIRLINES PICKS WINNER IN FLY FREE FOREVER PROMOTION
WASHINGTON -- (Dec. 10) -- Northwest Airlines announced today it will award H.B.W. (Bernie) Schroeder of Burke, Va., free, unlimited lifetime first-class travel for two as part of its Fly Free Forever sweepstakes.
"We're thrilled to offer free travel for life to Bernie, a frequent Northwest customer and member of our WorldPerks free travel program," said John Dasburg, president and chief executive officer. "We look forward to flying Bernie and his wife, Carol, around our worldwide route system for many years to come."
Dasburg presented Schroeder the grand prize today at Northwest's Washington National Airport hub. In addition to the free lifetime travel, Schroeder also won a lifetime WorldClub membership.
Northwest is awarding hundreds of prizes worth more than $1 million in free travel as part of its Fly Free Forever sweepstakes. The promotion, designed to promote the airline's newest hub, was offered to Northwest WorldPerks members who flew into, out of or through Washington National Airport during June.
In addition to the grand prize, other prizes include:
FIVE FIRST PRIZES: One-year systemwide passes for two for free, unlimited first-class travel on Northwest and a WorldClub membership.
50 SECOND PRIZES: Four-day, three-night WorldVacations package for two, including air and hotel, to London, Hong Kong, California, Florida, Grand Cayman, Hawaii, Jamaica or Mexico.
75 THIRD PRIZES: A coach-class ticket to Alaska, Hawaii or Europe.
500 FOURTH PRIZES: A half-price domestic ticket for the 48 contiguous states and Canada.
In addition, Northwest offered a variety of prizes to travel agents booking passengers into, out of or through Washington National. Willa Lemken of Passageways/Carlson Travel Network, Traverse City, Mich., was the grand-prize winner of three years of free, unlimited first-class travel for two on Northwest.
The promotion also benefited the International Special Olympic Games held last summer in the Twin Cities. Northwest donated $50,000 -- or $1 for every passenger who entered the contest -- as part of the company's $1 million-plus sponsorship of the games.
Northwest established Washington National as a hub in April and operates 54 daily departures to 13 destinations -- Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Hartford/Springfield, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Newark, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach.
Northwest is America's fourth-largest airline. Northwest and its Northwest Airlink regional airline partners serve 200 cities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Australia.
