NORTHEAST B.C. GAS FLOW -- A FIRST FOR SHELL

CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Canada flowed the first natural gas from its West Bullmoose well to its recently completed $5 million dehydration plant in northeastern British Columbia today. The 100 percent Shell-owned well, part of the Monkman Pass natural gas play, is located 150 kilometers northeast of Prince George, British Columbia.
"This is an important milestone in Shell's ongoing exploration and development of the Monkman Pass play," said development coordinator Chris Seasons. "Shell is a major player in this area of northeastern B.C. and this is the first gas flow from our holdings there. We plan to drill or participate in six wells in the Monkman Pass play in the next 12 months, and we anticipate drilling three or four wells a year for the next few years."
The new dehydration plant removes water from natural gas flowing from the West Bullmoose well before it is transported by pipeline to Westcoast Energy Inc.'s gas plant at Pine River. The well will produce 900,000 cubic meters (32 million cubic feet) a day of natural gas, Seasons said. The production rate is limited by available gas processing capacity at Pine River.
In November 1994, Shell's production from the play is expected to increase to 2 million cubic meters (70 million cubic feet) a day of natural gas with Westcoast's proposed Pine River expansion. The natural gas produced will be marketed primarily in British Columbia and the northwestern United States.
Shell has a majority interest in 160,000 hectares in the northeastern B.C. area. The Monkman Pass play covers 960,000 hectares and is estimated to contain 170 to 200 billion cubic meters (6 to 7 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas. The company has had an interest in the area since the early 1960s, Seasons added.
