NORTH PHILADELPHIA HEALTH SYSTEM COMMEMORATES OPENING OF URGENT CARE CENTER AT GIRARD MEDICAL CENTER TODAY AT NOON

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Administrators at North Philadelphia Health System (NPHS) will officially open the new Urgent Care Center at Girard Medical Center -- at 8th Street and Girard Avenue -- today.
The center was formerly an emergency room.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon, followed by three hours of tours, and medical screenings will be featured at the opening. The public has been invited to attend.
Although life-threatening emergencies are no longer seen there, the center is equipped to handle most health care problems. The Urgent Care Center and Emergency Room at NPHS receive about 36,000 visits from North Philadelphia residents annually.
North Philadelphia Health System comprises Girard Medical Center on 8th Street and Girard Avenue, and St. Joseph's Hospital on 16th Street and Girard Avenue. The two facilities consolidated in August of 1990. The 409-bed health care system offers medical/surgical care at St. Joseph's Hospital and psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment services at Girard Medical Center.
