NORSTAN TO DISTRIBUTE OCTEL COMMUNICATIONS' VOICE
 INFORMATION PROCESSING EQUIPMENT
MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Norstan, Inc. (NASDAQ: NRRD) today announced that it has signed a contract with Octel Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: OCTL), based in Milpitas, Calif., to distribute that company's full line of voice information processing equipment. Octel Communications Corporation designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of Octel's voice information processing system including PowerCall(TM) applications such as TransAct(TM), FaxCall(TM), InfoTex(TM) and InterMail(TM) in all 18 states Norstan serves. The catalyst for this agreement was Norstan's recent purchase of certain Tel Plus Communications offices, which were distributors of Octel's products. Norstan had previously agreed to service the Octel equipment that had been installed and maintained by the former Tel Plus offices.
Paul Baszucki, Norstan's chief executive officer said, "Norstan is extremely pleased to become a distributor of Octel Communications' voice information processing equipment. While Norstan already carries other voice mail products, the addition of the entire line of Octel's voice information processing equipment will allow Norstan to even better meet the needs of both our current and future customers. Octel certainly adds further credence to Norstan's goal of providing our customers with a full range of voice, video and related data services."
Octel Communications designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of voice information processing servers and software. These systems solve a range of communications problems by allowing callers to access multiple information sources -- voice, data, image -- during a single touch tone telephone call. The servers are sold in North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim to small businesses, multi-site corporations, telephone companies and the cellular service providers. Founded in 1982, Octel is headquartered in Milpitas.
Norstan, Inc., based in Maple Grove, Minn., is a full range communications services company providing business telephone systems, videoconferencing equipment, long distance services and voice processing products and services. The company has 1,300 employees and serves all, or parts of 18 states and nearly 10,000 customers.
