MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce has presented Norstan, Inc. (NASDAQ: NRRD) a Maple Grove, Minn.-based telecommunications provider, with its Quality of Life Award. The award was presented for Norstan's continuing implementation of its "Fortunate 500" program, a values-based management program. Fortunate 500 empowers and trains employees at all levels to use the company's values to make decisions, resolve conflicts and recognize peers while also making changes and improvements throughout the organization.
The award will be presented to Norstan at the Chamber's annual dinner which will be held Jan. 13 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.
"The Chamber's Quality of Life Award recognizes exemplary Minnesota businesses that have contributed to the quality of life of their employees, customers or the broader community in extraordinary ways," said Connie Levi, president of the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce. "Innovation, effectiveness and the direct involvement of employees -- not simply philanthropy -- were the primary considerations in granting the awards," Levi continued.
Ervin F. Kamm, Jr., president of Norstan, Inc., said, "Norstan's Fortunate 500 values-based philosophy has two facets: First, it is a practical way to bring ethics into the business place; and second, Fortunate 500 is an effort aimed at improving quality of work life for our people which translates to the quality of service we provide to our customers and the quality of earnings we provide to our shareholders."
In addition to Norstan, the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce will also present Quality of Life Awards to four other companies and a local university.
