 NORFOLK SOUTHERN NAMES MARTIN ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT-FINANCE
 NORFOLK, Va., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) has named William R. Martin assistant vice president- Finance, succeeding William J. Romig, who recently was elected vice president and treasurer.
 Martin, formerly director of Financial Planning, is succeeded in that position by James N. Bayley, who was promoted from manager of Financial Analysis. Steven A. Evans, formerly assistant manager- Financial Planning, was named to succeed Bayley.
 Martin, a graduate of Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, joined a Norfolk Southern predecessor, Southern Railway, in 1978 as senior financial analyst. He rose through various positions in the Finance department, becoming director-Financial Planning in 1984.
 Bayley, a graduate of the Wharton School and of Northwestern University Graduate School of Management, joined another predecessor company, Norfolk and Western Railway, in 1971 as an analyst and became manager of Financial Analysis in 1988. Evans, a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and the Syracuse University graduate school, began with Southern in 1977, holding several positions in marketing and finance before becoming assistant manager-Financial Planning in 1990.
