 NORFOLK SOUTHERN CORPORATION ELECTS JAMES GRANUM AND JOHN CORCORAN
 VICE PRESIDENTS-PUBLIC AFFAIRS
 NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- James L. Granum and John F. Corcoran today were elected vice presidents of Public Affairs for Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC), with headquarters in Washington, D.C. Granum and Corcoran will assume the duties being vacated by the retirement of Edward T. Breathitt, senior vice president-Public Affairs, effective March 1.
 Breathitt, an attorney and a former governor of Kentucky, began his railroad career in 1972 as vice president-Public Affairs for Southern Railway, assuming the same position with Norfolk Southern in 1982 and becoming senior vice president in 1986.
 Granum, 55, a graduate of the University of Alabama and its law school, joined Southern Railway in 1962 as a solicitor in the Law Department. He worked through positions of increasing responsibility, and in 1974 became special representative-Public Affairs for Southern and then Norfolk Southern. He was promoted to assistant vice president-Public Affairs, in 1984.
 Corcoran, 51, is a graduate of the University of Tennessee who began his career with Southern in 1962 as a student traffic officer in the Sales department, becoming a management trainee in 1963. After working through several positions in Sales, he was named special representative- Public Affairs in 1975 and later held the same position with Norfolk Southern. He became assistant vice president-Public Affairs in 1984.
