NORFOLK SOUTHERN ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY SEPARATION PROGRAM
FOR CERTAIN ENGINE SERVICE EMPLOYEES
NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) has announced a voluntary separation program with a one-time special compensation package for certain engine service employees of its railroad subsidiaries.
Active employees whose applications for separation are accepted would each receive a one-time $50,000 separation allowance. For those employees separating who are over age 55 by Dec. 31, 1991, the program also would provide certain medical care coverage and a $10,000 death benefit. The program becomes effective Nov. 11 and all applications are due by Nov. 22.
"This program reflects Norfolk Southern's ongoing efforts to reduce the size of its work force in order to maker its operations more efficient and competitive in the marketplace," said Marcellus C. Kirchner, Director Human Resources.
