NORDSTROM RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS CHAIRMAN'S AWARD; CHAIN RECOGNIZED FOR
LEADERSHIP IN EMPLOYMENT OF AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES
WASHINGTON, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Nordstrom Inc., based in Seattle, was recognized today with the Chairman's Award at the 1992 Annual Conference of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, the committee announced. The award is being given for the first time in the history of the President's Committee to honor a magnet American business that has proven to "go the extra yard" to recognize the emerging consumer and employee market of Americans with Disabilities.
Justin Dart, chairman of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, presented the award to John Nordstrom, co-chairman of Nordstrom Inc., at the general session of the conference today. "Nordstrom has proven to be a leader in many ways," said Chairman Dart. "They have created an exemplary ADA Team, committed to recognizing the diversity of both their consumer base and to opening their doors to the untapped labor market of people with disabilities. As well, they have begun to portray customers with disabilities in their advertising."
"This is a tremendous honor for our company," said Mr. Nordstrom. "As we have grown (Nordstrom has 69 stores in 10 states), we have long witnessed the benefits of employing individuals with disabilities in our stores and have found that it makes good business sense to maintain access and service for our consumers with disabilities."
