NORDSON REPORTS SALES AND EARNINGS FOR SECOND QUARTER FISCAL 1993

WESTLAKE, Ohio, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: NDSN) announced today that sales for the second quarter ended May 2, 1993, were $109.3 million, a 3 percent increase over second quarter 1992 sales of $106.2 million. Earnings per share for the period were $.46, compared with $.52 per share for the same period last year.
Sales for the first half of 1993 were $209.6 million, an increase of 5 percent over sales of $199.6 million for the first half of fiscal 1992. Year-to-date earnings were $.81 per share compared with $.90 per share for the same period in 1992.
"Operating margins for the second quarter were affected by both geographic and product sales mixes," said William P. Madar, president and chief executive officer. "We continued to experience strong sales gains in North America, as well as steady gains in the Pacific Rim and South American regions. These gains have mitigated the effects of adverse economic conditions in Europe and Japan, where shipments are running below prior year levels.
"We remain committed to our long-term business strategies and are poised to capitalize on improvements in worldwide economic conditions, which we anticipate."
Nordson Corporation designs, manufactures and markets systems that apply adhesives, sealants and coatings to consumer and industrial products during manufacturing. Headquartered in Westlake, Ohio, Nordson has 25 subsidiaries and more than 3,000 employees worldwide.
