NORDSON REPORTS 19 PERCENT INCREASE IN EARNINGS PER SHARE FOR THE THIRD QUARTER FISCAL 1993

WESTLAKE, Ohio, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: NDSN) announced a 19 percent increase in earnings per share and a 17 percent increase in sales for the third quarter ended Aug. 1, 1993. Sales for the quarter were $123.3 million and earnings per share were $.63. This compares with third quarter 1992 sales and earnings per share of $105.6 million and $.53, respectively.
Sales for the first nine months of 1993 were $332.9 million, a 9 percent increase over sales of $305.1 million for the same period in 1992. Year-to-date earnings were $1.44 per share compared with $1.43 per share for the first nine months of fiscal 1992.
"Strong sales gains in North America, the Pacific Rim and Latin America significantly influenced third quarter performance," said William P. Madar, president and chief executive officer. "Although sluggish economic conditions persist in Europe and Japan, results also reflect moderate improvement in our business activity in these regions. We are very pleased with the company's continued solid performance in North America throughout the year and are encouraged by third quarter gains in other regions of the world."
Nordson Corporation designs, manufactures and markets systems that apply adhesives, sealants and coatings to consumer and industrial products during manufacturing. Headquartered in Westlake, Ohio, Nordson has 25 subsidiaries and more than 3,000 employees worldwide.
