NORDICTRACK OFFERS SPECIAL HOLIDAY 'SHAPE-UP' DISCOUNT TO U.S. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS

CHASKA, Minn., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- An innocent phone call from a well-meaning plant employee to NordicTrack's CEO took on national proportions Thursday as the company extended an across-the-board discount on all NordicTrack(R) products to U.S. National Guard personnel.
Minnesota National Guard Sgt. Marlo Holmes called James Bostic, NordicTrack president and chief executive officer, out of concern that "a significant number" of National Guards in his unit repeatedly flunked their annual physical fitness exams. If they fail to pass their tests one more time, said Holmes, they could be discharged.
"I know that NordicTrack fitness equipment really works," said Holmes, a NordicTrack employee in the company's Belle Plaine, Minn. production plant. "I'm sure if they can work out on NordicTrack machines, my unit can get fit in time to pass their last-chance fitness tests."
Bostic made the unprecedented 15-percent discount good on all NordicTrack products from Dec. 2 through Jan. 31, 1994.
"This is one way of showing the men and women of the National Guard that NordicTrack supports them -- particularly over the holidays, when diet and fitness are common concerns," said Bostic.
The offer is available from Dec. 1 through Jan. 31, 1994 to more than 518,000 National Guard personnel, nationwide. To qualify for the discount, National Guard members must call a special toll-free telephone number (800-441-3398) and identify the name and number of their National Guard unit.
The National Guard has about 518,000 personnel in the United States (including 13,000 members in Minnesota).
NordicTrack, a CML company, is a world leader in exercise, fitness and sports products. NordicTrack manufactures and markets more than 200 exercise and fitness products throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Germany.
