PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The search is on for nominations to honor and recognize the Delaware Valley's most successful and dynamic entrepreneurs through the 1994 Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) awards program.
Sponsored nationally by Ernst & Young, Inc. magazine, and Merrill Lynch, and locally by KYW Newsradio 1060, EOY is the standard of excellence for the leaders of some of America's best entrepreneurial companies.
"The annual Entrepreneur Of The Year program not only honors and recognizes the achievements of outstanding entrepreneurs but also provides a forum for them to share and learn about successful strategies, processes, and innovations," said Stephen J. Negrotti, director of Entrepreneurial Services for the Philadelphia office of Ernst & Young.
Created in 1986 by the professional services firm of Ernst & Young, EOY is the country's pre-eminent program honoring outstanding owners of emerging and growing companies. Awards will be given to entrepreneurs -- and those who support them -- who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
"The personal and business rewards of being recognized as one of Delaware Valley's -- and perhaps the nation's -- most successful and dynamic entrepreneurs go well beyond personal gratification. A survey of previous award recipients shows that the award increased recognition of the participants' businesses, improved employee morale, increased their networks with other entrepreneurs and directly increased sales," said Negrotti.
There is no fee for nominations and self-nominations are encouraged. The local nomination deadline is March 25, 1994. "Over the past six years, bankers, attorneys, accountants, public relations and advertising executives, and other professionals advising entrepreneurs have nominated their clients and business contacts," said Negrotti. "They have strengthened their business relationships and initiated new contacts through the nomination process."
 Eligibility and Award Categories
Owners or top managers who are primarily responsible for the growth of a company or who have shown active support for entrepreneurship are eligible for the Entrepreneur Of The Year award. Companies must have been in operation for at least two years; if publicly held, the founder must be an active member of top management.
Potential award categories include Emerging Entrepreneur (less than five years in business), Master Entrepreneur (over five years in business), Construction and/or Real Estate, Electronics, Health Care, High Technology, Life Sciences/Biotechnology, Manufacturing, Retail, or Turnaround. Entrepreneurs who commit themselves and/or their business resources to help their communities address environmental or social concerns are eligible for the Socially Responsible Entrepreneur award and a Supporter of Entrepreneurship category is available for individuals who have encouraged and contributed to the entrepreneurial spirit. Teachers and individuals outside the traditional educational system who have developed successful entrepreneurial education programs are eligible for the National Entrepreneurship Educator Of The Year award.
Final determination of the categories will be made by the judges based on the completed nominations received.
Last June, nine entrepreneurs from Delaware Valley were named as regional Entrepreneurs Of The Year at a Center City gala. One award recipient, Steven Volla, President and CEO of American Healthcare Management, Inc., a King of Prussia-based hospital management company, was also selected as the 1993 National Turnaround Entrepreneur Of The Year during the annual November conference of the Entrepreneur Of The Year Institute and prominently featured in the December 1993 issue of Inc. magazine.
