NO SUCH THING AS A SHAW THING! CONNACHT SFC FINAL CASTLEBAR MITCHELS v COROFIN TOMORROW, TUAM STADIUM, 2.00pm; Castlebar No.2 says they can topple mighty Corofin.
Byline: DARAGH SMALL
CASTLEBAR Mitchels joint-manager Declan Shaw says anyone can be beaten on their day - including Corofin.
The Mayo men travel to Tuam Stadium tomorrow where they will look to dethrone the reigning Connacht champions.
Last year Corofin beat Castlebar 0-17 to 0-14 after extra-time in the Connacht semi-final, and the Galway champions went on to reach an All-Ireland semi-final before losing to eventual winners Dr Croke's.
Corofin have won All-Irelands in 1998 and 2015 and come into this game on the back of a fifth Galway title in a row.
It's a big task for Castlebar, but, having beaten Corofin two years ago - and witnessed Rathnew's brilliant four-point win over St Vincent's in Leinster earlier this month - Mitchels are confident of landing a shock victory.
Shaw said: "It shows anyone on their day can be beaten. It's all about the next game and you have to focus as well as you can. The likes of Rathnew turning over St Vincent's shows that anyone can be beaten.
Castlebar claimed their 31st Mayo title when they edged past Ballintubber by two points - their third county title in a row, and their first time doing so in 63 years.
And Shaw has vowed his side are determined to gain revenge after losing in the final four last year.
He said: "We created enough scoring chances in the game to win. Extra-time just took it out of us, we didn't have it in the legs,.
"We know it's going to be really, really tough in the final but we'd be hoping to make amends.
"You just have to dig deep. You have to control the game and if you win by a point or two then that's good enough."
