NLC awarded $75,000 grant on clean air.

The National League of Cities has been awarded a $75,000 technical assistance grant from the Urban Mass Transit Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Under the grant, the NLC will conduct outreach activities to local governments on the Clean Air Act. Four technical briefs will be prepared which will examine implementation of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, state and local legislation on alternative fuels, and technology development relative to alternative fuels and engine technology.

Three workshops will be held on Clean Air Compliance, one at the Congress of Cities and two in conjunction with Public Technology Inc.'s Alternative Vehicle Fuels core Assistance Program.

The workshop at the Congress of Cities is entitled, "Act Now or Pay Later: Complying with the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments," and will be held on December 15 from 2:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The workshop will assist local officials in understanding and meeting their responsibilities under the Clean Air Act.

For additional information on the project, contact Virginia Mayer of the NLC staff at (202) 626-3170.
