NKF to host 2 audioconferences on immunosuppressive drug coverage changes under Medicare.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) announced it will host 2 free hour-long Q&A audioconferences to answer transplant professional's and transplant recipient's questions about the extended Medicare coverage for immunosuppressive drugs for transplant recipients signed into law last December.

"Issues for Today's Transplant Recipient: Understanding the New Extended Medicare Coverage for Immunosuppressive Medications" will be broadcast on July 20 and 24. A panel of representatives from the NKF, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and pharmacy services will be available to answer questions about the new law and other topics including the history of the Beneficiary Improvements and Protection Act (BIPA, Public Law 106-554), patient eligibility and assistance to patients and health care professionals on obtaining immunosuppressive medications.

The session for transplant professionals (transplant physicians, social workers, transplant coordinators, administrators and financial counselors) will be held Friday, July 20 from 1 to 2 p.m. EDT. The second conference for transplant recipients, family members and friends, will be held Tuesday, July 24 from 1 to 2 p.m. EDT.

Interested participants should call the toll free access number at 866-322-0772 about 10 minutes before the conference is to air. Patients and health care professionals may also submit their questions about the new legislation prior to the conference by registering online at or by calling the NKF at (800) 622-9010 to request a registration form.
