NISSAN NAMES NEW PRESIDENT OF NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS

 LOS ANGELES, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Tetsuo Tabata has been named to the position of president of Nissan North America Inc., effective immediately. He is replacing Haruo Ohno who was promoted to president and chief executive officer of Calsonic Corp., a Nissan group company which produces automotive air conditioners, radiators and related equipment.
 Tabata, 54, most recently was director and member of the board for Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and in charge of Overseas Operations Support Department; Overseas Sales Support Department; Marketing and Sales Department, Latin America and the Caribbean and deputy general manager, Overseas Business Planning Division.
 He joined Nissan in 1962 after graduating from the Department of Spanish, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. From 1968 to 1975 he held positions at Nissan Mexicana S.A. De C.V., Nissan Motor Del Peru S.A. and NML's Export department, Latin America and Caribbean. He was promoted to manager, Overseas Operations department in 1976.
 In January of 1987, he was named general manager, Manufacturing and Sales, Europe Operations group and was promoted to assistant group director, Asia and Oceania Operations Group in July of the same year.
 In 1989, Tabata was named director and member of the board, group director, Asia and Oceania Operations Group, general manager, Taiwan, Asia and Oceania Operations Group, and chairman, Nissan Motor Manufacturing Co. (Australia) Ltd. He gained additional responsibilities as chairman, Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty. Ltd. in June 1990.
 In January 1991, Tabata was promoted to general manager, Asia and Oceania Operations Division. Six months later, he was promoted to the position of director and member of the board in charge of Overseas Operations Support Department; Marketing and Sales Department, Latin America and the Caribbean, and deputy general manager, Overseas Business Planning Division.
 Tabata is married and has two children.
 Nissan's operations in North America include styling, manufacturing, engineering, design, sales, consumer and corporate finance, industrial equipment and textiles. Nissan North America, the umbrella company charged with coordinating Nissan's North American operations, employs approximately 10,500 people directly and 68,000 people through its dealership operations.
