NISSAN IS CONDUCTING A VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN

CARSON, Calif., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan Motor Corp., U.S.A., distributor of Nissan cars and trucks, announced today that it has been conducting a voluntary safety recall campaign on approximately 33,000 1987, 1988 and 1990 Nissan Vans.
On Aug. 16, 1993, Nissan began notifying owners to bring their vehicles to a Nissan dealer for repair free of charge. Owners who have not had the recall work performed should contact a Nissan dealer to schedule an appointment. Additionally, owners who have not received a notification letter and video tape should call the Nissan Recall Coordination Center at 800-677-7822.
Nissan reported that certain engine compartment components may fail after exposure to sustained excessive temperatures, such as those which occur after failure of the fan belt. Under such circumstances, the failure of those components may result in an engine compartment fire.
Nissan is installing an improved durability cooling drive system, a new radiator, an electric fan, and various other parts. Nissan stopped producing this model Van in 1990, and the Nissan Quest and Axxess models are not involved in this recall. The recall affects the U.S. market vehicles only.
Nissan cautioned owners in the recall letter that if, prior to repair of their vehicle, they notice the temperature gauge reading full hot, the battery charge warning light on or the engine knocking or losing power, they should stop their vehicle and contact their Nissan dealer or call 800-225-2476 to arrange for towing, repair and alternate transportation.
