NISSAN INTEGRATES ITS U.S.-BASED COMMUNICATIONS FUNCTION; SPETNER NAMED TO TOP PUBLIC RELATIONS JOB

 DETROIT, Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- Nissan announced today that it has integrated its non-manufacturing public relations departments by combining the corporate communications office of its U.S. sales and marketing subsidiary, Nissan Motor Corp. in USA, with the public affairs office of Nissan North America, Inc., headquartered in Los Angeles.
 The company also announced that it has appointed Don Spetner to fill the newly created position of director, corporate communications, for Nissan North America, Inc. In his new role, Spetner will oversee Nissan's newly integrated U.S. public relations operations. Nissan also named Steve Spurgeon as manager, office of public affairs, and Jim Yates as manager, office of corporate communications. Yates will be responsible primarily for sales and marketing support public relations while Spurgeon will oversee public affairs, community relations and internal communications. Both will report to Spetner.
 "The integration of our communications offices marks a significant step for Nissan," said Norio Ohsawa, executive vice president of Nissan North America, Inc. "This move will allow us to be more focused and efficient with our North American image-making activities."
 Nissan believes the top-level restructuring will further streamline inter-company operations and centralized activities at its Torrance, Calif.-based Nissan North America, Inc. headquarters, which was established in 1990 to coordinate all of the company's operations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
 Spetner previously was manager, office of corporate communications at Nissan before assuming his new role. Prior to joining Nissan in 1989, Spetner was senior vice president with GCI Group, Inc., where he headed the account team that helped launch Nissan's Infiniti Division.
 Spurgeon joined Nissan in 1990 as manager of public affairs before being named to his new role. Prior to joining Nissan, he was executive vice president of Ketchum Communications in Los Angeles.
 Yates joined Nissan in 1991 as manager of division support before being named to his new post. Prior to joining Nissan, Yates was manager of sales and marketing for Subaru of America's Western Region.
 Nissan's North American operations include styling, engineering, manufacturing, sales, consumer and corporate finance, and industrial and textile equipment. Nissan employs nearly 10,000 people in the United States and Canada and generates an additional 55,000 jobs through its 1,400 Nissan and Infiniti dealerships located across the continent.
