NISSAN ANNOUNCES PRICING ON 1994 MODELS

CARSON, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan Division of Nissan Motor Corp. U.S.A. today announced manufacturer's suggested list pricing for all of its 1994 models except 300ZX. Nissan's 1994 prices reflect an average increase of $823, or a sales-weighted average increase of 5.2 percent versus final 1993 model prices.
"The continued strengthening of the Japanese yen, coupled with a higher level of standard equipment and safety features on many of our 1994 models, such as dual air bags on the Altima, are the primary factors driving the price increases," said Earl J. Hesterberg, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division.
The sales success of the Altima sedan and other U.S.-built Nissan products has helped the company minimize the impact of the rising yen. Thus far this year, U.S.-produced vehicles have accounted for 62 percent of Nissan's U.S. sales, reaching nearly 70 percent for the month of August. As recently as 1991, U.S.-built vehicles accounted for only 45 percent of the company's sales.
"Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corp. in Smyrna, Tenn., is an important asset for us," said Hesterberg. "This facility helps lessen the yen's impact on Nissan since the majority of our volume vehicle lines (all Altimas, Trucks and nearly all Sentras, as well as Quest body stampings and engine assemblies) are built there."
Continued efforts to utilize domestic suppliers have also helped the company offset yen fluctuation. Nissan is increasing its U.S. parts proce?nt from $2.35 billion during fiscal year 1992, to a projected $3.7 billion by fiscal year 1994. In addition, the company continues to make advances at the manufacturing, distribution and marketing levels aimed at cutting costs and finding more efficient ways to do business.
1994 300ZX pricing will be announced at a later date.
