NISSAN ALTIMA NAME PREVAILS IN TRADEMARK CASE
CHICAGO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan Motor Corp. in U.S.A.,

which will launch its new mid-size sedan, the Nissan Altima, next week, was victorious today in a federal court trademark suit filed against the automaker by Altima Systems Inc. of Concord, Calif.
After considering all the evidence of the parties, the judge denied the plaintiff's request for a temporary restraining order against Nissan over the use of the 'Altima' name. The hearing took place in the Federal District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Chicago.
"We are pleased with the outcome of today's hearing," said Earl Hesterberg, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "Obviously, the two products in question, a car and a computer, are not in competition with each other and will not be confused in the marketplace. We look forward to the launch of this exciting new vehicle."
The new 1993 Nissan Altima, which is positioned between the Maxima and Sentra in Nissan's award-winning line-up of sedans, sports cars and trucks, goes on sale at Nissan dealerships nationwide Sept. 1.
