NINTEN DOSH; Hard-up parents under pressure as kids demand costliest Xmas prezzie yet.

Byline: Ben Duffy; Jessica Sammonds

KIDS are piling financial agony on cash-strapped parents by putting the most expensive gift EVER at top of their Christmas wish lists.

Most children hope Santa will bring them the handheld games console Nintendo 3DS costing up to pounds 150. It's nearly four times more pricey than last year's must-have gift, the pounds 40 Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story 3.

Other expensive presents on kids' lists include bicycles, portable PlayStations and football kits.

There was a little comfort for hardup parents as the survey of 20,000 kids aged two to 11 by events company Melbry Events also showed cheaper gifts such as Lego, Play-Doh and Barbies are still in demand.

One Space, a single parent support group, said: "Christmas is the toughest time for single parents, The 3DS financially and emotionally and this will not be helped if the most popular toy is expensive."

A spokesman for entertainment giant Play.Com said: "There has been phenomenal demand for the Nintendo 3DS and there are good discounts to be had."

Some kids did ask for much cheekier presents. A two-year-old girl wanted a pounds 400 iPad and boy aged four asked for a credit card.

It is the first time since 2007 that a games console has topped the Christmas wish lists.
