 NINE-WEEK KROGER/UFCW STRIKE SETTLED
 WASHINGTON, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Bernard E. DeLury, director

of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, announced yesterday that the Kroger Co., Madison Heights, Mich., and Local 876 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, AFL-CIO, ended a 66- day strike with a five-year agreement ratified by grocery workers and meatcutters yesterday.
Commissioner Michael Nowakowski of the FMCS Detroit Field Office was instrumental in bringing the parties together to deal with the several issues
that caused the work stoppage on April 13, 1992. The new agreement provides for the 7,000 workers to return to work over the next several days in accordance with an agreed upon schedule.
DeLury stated that, "Commissioner Nowakowski deserves special praise for his work with labor and management representatives in dealing with a dispute involving some of the more complex issues in contemporary labor relations."
